COMPOSITION

Each ml of syrup contains lactulose 667 mg.

THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS

- Constipation: regulation of the intestinal physiological rhythm;
- Stool softening for medical purposes (haemorrhoids, operations on the colon and in the region of anus, in postoperative period);
- Intestinal dysbacteriosis;
- Putrefactive dyspeptic syndrome (in infants and children under 10 years old);
- Enteritis caused by Salmonella or Shigella, Salmonella carriage;
- Hepatic precoma and coma, hepatic encephalopathy, hyperammoniemia.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

- Hypersensitivity to the preparation components;
- Galactosemia;
- Intolerance of lactose, galactose or fructose;
- Intestinal obstruction.

ADVERSE EFFECTS

Gastrointestinal tract: flatulence, stomachache, nausea, vomiting.
In case of long-term treatment there is a possibility of water-electrolytic disturbances.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Medulac-WM is taken orally.
For the treatment of constipation and for stool softening:
Adults: the initial dose is 15-45 ml and the maintenance dose is 10-25 ml.
Children under three years old: the initial dose is 5 ml and the maintenance dose is 5 ml;
3-6 years old: the initial dose is 5-10 ml and the maintenance dose is 5-10 ml;
7-14 years old: the initial dose is 15 ml and the maintenance dose is 10 ml.
The dose can be usually decreased after 2 days of application depending on the patient's need.
For the treatment of intestinal dysbacteriosis (daily doses):
- adults: 10 ml daily;
- children: 7 years and older – 10 ml daily;
4-7 years old – 5 ml daily;
1-3 years old – 3 ml daily;
under 1 year old – 1.5-3 ml daily.
In case of enteritis caused by Salmonella, Shigella: during the first 10-12 days in the dose of 15 ml 3 times daily. Following one week break the drug is taken in the same dose 5 times daily.
In case of hepatic encephalopathy, hepatic precoma and coma: 30-50 ml three times daily, the daily dose can be 90-190 ml and then the maintenance dose is adjusted individually (producing рН of faeces 5-5.5) 2-3 times daily.
In case of hepatic encephalopathy the dose is adjusted so that there should be soft stool 2-3 times daily. The duration of treatment can be 3 months and longer.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

Medulac-WM is safe for application during pregnancy and lactation.
